Basic personal amount enhancement

Basic personal amount in Nova Scotia is variable and depends on your gross income. The "regular portion" is 8 481$ and Nova Scotia offers an enhancement of 3000$ for 25 000$ and less of taxable salary and roll-off at a rate of 6% of taxable income until 75 000$.
For more information on this situation please refer to the Basic Personal Amount of the Nova Scotia finance and Treasury Board website.

Calculation formula of the BPA enchancement

If the income is 25 000$ or less
Enhancement = 3000$

If the income is over 25 000$ and under 75 000$
Enhancement = 3000$ - ((Taxable income-25 000$) * Roll-off rate/100)

Calculation exemple of BPA enchancement

Your total income is 65 500$.

If the income is 25 000$ or less
Enhancement = 3000$

If the income is over 25 000$ and under 75 000$
Enhancement = 3000$ - ((65 500$-25 000$) * 6/100)
Enhancement = 3000$ - (40 500$ * 0.06)
Enhancement = 3000$ - 2430$ = 570$
Add the enchancement to the BPA for a total of 570$ + 8 481$ = 9051$
